food trivia: AN APPLE A DAY…

“An apple a day, keeps the doctor away”. Somehow, there’s an increasing number of supportive scientific evidences for this claim. It’s a nice tip that you shouldn’t peel your apple as you eat it for it’s skin (pectin) is rich in fibre that prevents cancer. It’s also rich in phytochemicals that can act as anti-oxidants that can also be found in plants, fruits and vegetables. It has been found that eating apples helps reduce blood cholesterol, improve bowel function, reduce the risk of stroke, prostate cancer, type II diabetes and asthma. This is due to the fibre and phytonutrients present in the apples. It aids digestion as well and promotes weight loss for weight-conscious. Aside from therapeutic benefits, it prevents wrinkles and promotes hair growth (due to compound named procyanidin B-2).
